Video: ICC Sweeps Northeast in Thursday Night Hoops

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) – The Itawamba Community College men’s basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit to pick up a 72-66 win over the rival Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers.

The Indians (10-5, 3-1 MACJC North) struggled to find a rhythm early, but where within striking distance at the end of the first, trailing by only five, 33-28.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the second half, but the Indians took the lead with just under seven minutes left in regulation. Howard Thomas (Brandon), Quenten Taylor (Edison, GA) and Martaveous McKnight (Walls) stepped up to allow the Indians to hold on to the lead and pick up the 72-66 win and move into a tie for first place in the MACJC North Division.

Taylor led the Indians with 18 points, followed by McKnight with 16 and Thomas with 11.

Kendarious Smith and Wesley Harris paced the Tigers with 18 points each.

The Indians will host another North Division opponent Tuesday when East Mississippi Community College comes to the Davis Event Center. Tip off is set for at 8:00 pm.

The Itawamba Community College women’s basketball program picked up it’s eleventh consecutive over Northeast Mississippi Community college with a 65-60 win Thursday.

The Lady Indians (12-3, 4-0 MACJC North) fell behind early but rallied to hold a 10 point advantage, 32-22 at the break.

In the second half, sophomore Treasure Evans (Horn Lake) led a charge to give the Lady Indians to a 16 point lead, their largest lead of the contest.

The Lady Tigers (6-8, 1-3 MACJC North)  rallied in the fourth quarter and pulled with in three points ,63-60 win under 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Jabria Pounds (Nettleton) put the game out of reach hitting a pair of free throws, allowing the Lady Indians to pick up the 65-60 win.

Evans led paced the Lady Indians with 12 points, while the Lady Tigers had four score in double figures led by Dashiyah Agnew with 14.

The Lady Indians put their perfect division record on the line again Tuesday when they host East Mississippi Community College at 6:00 pm. in Fulton.
