OAKLAND, MISS. (WCBI) – Sixty new jobs are being created in one Northeast Mississippi county, as a
frozen food manufacturer announces a multi million dollar expansion.
Nearly every business and civic leader was on hand for the groundbreaking.
Economic development officials say that spirit of teamwork is responsible
for a major expansion at Ajinomoto Windsor Foods.
“Mississippi Development Authority is very proud to be a part of this team,
what’s happening in Yolabusha County really sets the stage for more
announcements, more careers in the state of Mississippi, this is an historic
day, great day for Yolabusha County, great day for Mississippi,” said Glenn McCullough, Jr., Executive Director of the Mississippi Development Authority.
Ajinimoto Windsor moved to its facility in Oakland Mississippi nine years
ago. Now, 312 people work at the plant, making high quality , specialty
frozen foods for consumers, commercial restaurants and foodservice
operations. Business has been good and more room was needed for production.
“The factory building will increase by about 50 thousand square feet, and we
are going to start with one line, producing rice, but we hope to further
expand later on as well, in that exact same space, and create more jobs,” said Bernard Kreilaman, President of Ajinimoto Windsor.
Oakland mayor James Swearengen says the expansion will have a big impact.
“It does, it means the area is great for expansions, it’s great for new
businesses and we are proud of it proud of everybody from the governor’s
office, to mayor’s office who have participated from day one to help make
this a reality,” Mayor Swearengen said.
Construction should start soon on the expansion , by the summertime, it should be up and running.
