MONROE CO, Miss. (WCBI)- A family in Wren is displaced after heavy rains flooded their home Friday morning.
The Hale family says they were able to make it out alive, with just the clothes on their backs. They woke up to find their front and backyard covered in water, and their belongings–swept away.
Much of Highway 278 was covered in water, pouring into other homes nearby. County officials and 911 crews accessed the damage in the area.
“It looks like two-and-a-half or 3 feet of water is inside the house,” said Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy, Gary Monaghan.
According to the Hale’s, flooding has happened before, but it has never been this bad.
“We don’t have clothes, we don’t have anything,” Homeowner Tameka Hale said. “All I have is what I have on.”
The Hale family thinks a drainage issue caused the water to back-up in their home.
