Video: Student Athlete of the Week: Alijah Latham, Gordo High School

“I’ve got to be physical, I’ve got to be disciplined and just do my job,” says Alijah Latham, Linebacker for the Gordo High School Greenwave in Alabama.
It’s just that simple for Outside Linebacker Alijah Latham. The high school senior also plays running back and full back. Latham has a 3.1 grade point average and says sticking to his routine makes it all possible.
“I go to school, go to practice. When I get out of practice, go home, take a shower, go to the kitchen table. Do my work,” says Latham.
Latham’s discipline and consistency not only makes him a standout in the classroom but also a leader on the field. Fellow linebacker Ben Davis says Latham is their go-to guy.
“He’s really physical. He does his assignment every time. He really doesn’t do anything wrong. When ever we have questions, we just go to him,” says Davis.
“He’s coachable. He does what you ask him to do. He comes to work every day. If tell you tell him he’s got to blow a counter up, he’s going to blow a counter up. If you tell him he’s got to go out on the flats and defend the pass, he’s going to do whatever you ask him to do,” says Defensive Coordinator Eddie Hankins.
Gordo High head football coach Ryan Lolly says he’s also proud of the young man Latham has become off the field as well.
“He leads by example in the way he dresses and handles himself and the way he behaves in the classroom,” says Lolly.
Latham says he hopes to play college football next year and aspires to be an accountant. In the mean time, he’s preparing to take on Greensboro this Friday.
