COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-A local business is barely standing after an early morning fire in Columbus.
Fire investigators say “The Butcher Shop” on Main street caught fire around four Tuesday morning.
By the time firemen got to the scene, the building was fully engulfed in flames. No one was inside at the time of the blaze.
“They’re thinking it [the fire] started in the back of the Butcher shop,” said Columbus Fire and Rescue Public Relations Officer, Anthony Colom.
Shop owner Bill Mason didn’t want to go on camera, but said the hundreds of Christmas orders requested by his customers won’t be made this year. Mason says his shop can be replaced, but a life can’t.
“The Butcher Shop” has been in business for more than 20 years. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
