TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Mississippi’s State Auditor says hard work is paying off when it comes to holding public officials accountable when they step out of line.
Stacey Pickering’s office has prosecuted high profile public corruption cases in Alcorn County along with other cases throughout the state.
Pickering says although there was a culture of corruption for years in Alcorn County, the time is long overdue for those who have flaunted the law to face the consequences.
“This was the way of doing business among a certain group, this is not a reflection on the citizens of Alcorn County, but upon some individuals who got themselves into positions of authority and thought they were above the law and could do what they wanted to do. It’s been great, the calls, letters, emails, we have gotten from folks in Corinth, Alcorn County, thanking us for coming in and helping get their reputation cleaned up and we’re going to continue doing that.”
Pickering was the keynote speaker for the most recent graduating class of cadets from the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center.
