State Senator Terry Brown Hospitalized
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi Senate President Pro Tempore Terry Brown of Columbus is hospitalized after having “very aggressive treatment for cancer.”
That’s according to Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, who released a statement Thursday, a day after visiting the 64-year-old lawmaker in the hospital.
The statement did not disclose where Brown is hospitalized, and it said Brown’s family is requesting privacy. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013.
As president pro tem since early 2012, Republican Brown has presided over the 52-member state Senate when the lieutenant governor is away.
Brown served in the Mississippi House from 1988 to 2000. He ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 1999 and has served in the Senate since January 2004. His district is entirely in Lowndes County.
