Video: Starkville Woman Receives AARP Volunteer Award

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -If It’s a volunteer event in Starkville or Oktibbeha County, there’s A good chance Ruth De La Cruz is involved in some way.

The long-time Starkville resident has a volunteer resume ranging from The hospital auxiliary and Lions Club to a Country Line Dance group.

She is also one of the founders of the World Neighbors Association and coordinates the annual Thanksgiving luncheon for foreign students at Mississippi State.

For her efforts she received the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service.

Along with the honor, De La Cruz also gets a $1,000.00 check she can donate to the charity of her choice.
