SALTILLO, MISS. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi charity needs more Good Samaritans to help needy children have a Merry Christmas.
The Saltillo Junior Women’s Club is organizing its “Christmas Shining Stars” outreach.
It is similar to the “Angel Tree” program. Each child has two stars on a tree. One star lists clothes and hygeine items. The other star has a wish list of toys for the boy or girl.
That way, participants can choose one or two stars and buy the items. Organizers of the outreach have extended the deadline because there are still 17 children that need their wish lists filled.
“Otherwise their parents would not be able to afford Christmas and so these children are thinking that Christmas is going to be very slim this year, so they might not be as excited as our own children would be, but when they wake up Christmas morning now they’re going to be so surprised that there are lots of presents under the tree with their names on them,” said Heather Tate, of the Saltillo Jr. Women’s Club.
The remaining stars can be found at “Paper Dolls” Women’s Clothing store on City Market Drive in Saltillo. And the “Shining Stars” tree will be at the Saltillo Christmas parade Tuesday night.
