TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Department will be able to purchase new tasers thanks to a local businessman.
Mossy Oak Properties of Tupelo made a donation this morning at the Lee County Sheriff;s Department.
Broker Wesley Webb was looking for a way to help local law enforcement and found out that tasers are expensive to operate and maintain.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says donations from individuals and businesses are always welcomed.
“We don’t provide a service that makes the sheriff’s department money, it’s all a cost, a cost to the taxpayers, so any relief or burden we can help relieve them from, that’s what Wesley saw, he’s a community oriented person, he’s someone who’s lived here, set up business here and he wants a safe community and we certainly want to provide an environment where our officers can go out and do their job and not have to worry about not going home at night.”
The Sheriff says anytime a taser is used, there are parts and other components that must be purchased or replaced.
