Video: State Audit Finds Multiple Issues with Marion Co. (AL) Circuit Clerk’s Spending

HAMILTON, Ala. (WCBI) -A state audit finds a former Marion County, Alabama Circuit Clerk misused thousands of taxpayer dollars, including a shopping trip and a data plan for her car.
The report released by the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts shows Sheila Cochran spent $138.00 at Ulta on shampoo, conditioner, and a flat iron.
The money was charged to the Circuit Clerk’s Fund debit card, along with a four dollar trip to Jack’s restaurant.
Examiners also found she was reimbursed for a an OnStar data plan for her personal vehicle… A total of $11.46.
The big money comes in the form of checks.
The reports shows Cochran wrote 11 checks to herself without supporting documentation, totaling more than $17,000.00 in the Circuit Clerk’s fund.
In the Judicial Administration Fund, Cochran is accused of writing nine checks to herself without the correct documentation, totaling more than $13,000.00.
The agency also says money was moved from one account to another, leaving the Judicial account short $30,000.00.
