Video: MDOT Impact Study Reveals Importance of Airport Industry for Economy
MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — An impact study conducted by the Mississippi Department of Transportation shows just how much of an economic pillar the airport industry is for the state.
The study pooled economic figures from the state’s 73 airports to determine the gross revenue generated annually.
Figures provided by MDOT indicate the airports rake in a hefty $2.5 billion each year in economic activity.
MDOT Executive Director Melinda McGrath said in a statement the airports contribute some 20,000 jobs, accounting for more than $720 million in total annual wages.
The study also showed the state’s eight commercial airports service annually more than 1.1 million passengers.
