Video: Lee County Sheriff Meets With Seniors

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Lee County senior citizens were able to enjoy lunch, music and also learn about recent scams targeting their age group.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson , along with various community and health groups held the annual “TRIAD” conference.

TRIAD is a national coalition of law enforcement, community groups and senior organizations. The goal of TRIAD is to help keep seniors from becoming crime victims. Sheriff Johnson says unfortunately, many criminals prey on the most vulnerable in society.

“Now, they are very specific targets of individuals, especially with scams and different things. A lot of them are not very knowledgeable on the internet and electronic devices and that’s where they get taken advantage of because that is kind of the way the world went, so that information, is made available for us to assist them in different ways.”

Guests were encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
