Video: Family of New Miss Mississippi Still Celebrating

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The newly crowned Miss Mississippi, Jasmine Murray has begun her tour of duties in her new role. Her mother and sister are back home in Starkville still reminiscing on the moment she was crowned.

Lisa Murray and Kimberly Martinez both say they knew this was Jasmine’s year to win. In 2012, she was first runner-up. Last year, she only made it the top ten.

But big sister says, it was motivation to work harder. “It’s a lesson learned to so many people that dreams do come true if you persevere and don’t give up. Some would consider it a setback. But it was a set up for her success.”

Jasmine will represent the state in the Miss America pageant in September. The pageant returns to its home in Atlantic City.
