Video: MUW Helping High School Girls Get Interested in Math

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Girls from area high schools were having fun with numbers on the Mississippi University for Women campus. On Tuesday The “W” held its annual Sonia Kovalesvsky High School Mathematics Day. The event is named for the first woman to receive a doctoral degree in mathematics.

The goal of the event was to increase interest and awareness of math for high school girls.

“They can be part of math and science. they can be successful beyond high school and be successful not only at the w…at other colleges where they may hopefully choose math or science as one of their majors.”

Students competed for various prizes, including “W” scholarships.
