BROOKSVILLE and JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) -The outcome at the polls is already affecting state budget talks.
All state agencies, including law enforcement, family programs and universities, are presenting their proposed budgets to lawmakers.
There may not be much progress until after the November election. That’s when state representatives and senators will know how much they have to spend.
Lt. Governor Tate Reeves tells WCBI… education is at the top of the list – and the state is already spending more on Mississippi’s students and teachers.
“We have less debt on the books today than we had 4 years ago because we want to spend less on principal and interest and more money on our property. And, if you look at our state budget, our priorities are clear. Public education. We are going to spend 400 million dollars more on public education this year than we spent 4 years ago before I became Lt. Governor.”
