Video: Student Athlete of the Week: Corey Mccullough, Louisville HS, Football

[syndicaster id=’6019837′]LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Corey McCullough is the senior vice president of his class, a top ten student and he’s involved in numerous community and school groups. WCBI’s Jonathan Flippo has more with this week’s student athlete of the week.

Corey McCullough has been a three sport athlete since his seventh grade year at Louisville High School. He’s the starting kicker and punter on the football team. He pitches and plays third base on the baseball team and he plays center midfield on the soccer team. Last season in soccer he scored twenty three goals in fifteen games. His Soccer Coach Paul Killen sees the leadership he brings on the field.

“He’s a great leader. It’s just like having another coach on the field especially with soccer where you don’t get the timeouts. He can get everything going like it needs to be going,” said Head Soccer Coach Paul Killen.

McCullough is receiving football offers from East Mississippi and Hinds Community College along with Jackson State. His academics are top notch and is maintaining a 3.69 G-P-A. McCullough is also currently enrolled in dual credit and advancement placement courses. The two classes he enjoys the most is Math and History.

“I love History and I love Math. Math comes easy to me because I guess I’m just easier with numbers. History I like how everything ties together and I just love learning stuff from the past,” said Student Athlete Corey McCullough.

While Mccullough is kicking field goals or scoring goals in a game, his coaches both are proud of his leadership and academics that he brings in the classroom and on the field.

“He’s got a high academic average and he’s a good kid. He’s not a troubled kid or nothing like that. He’s a good kid and goes to class everyday and does what he needs to do,” said Head Football Coach M.C. Miller.

“You can take his athletic ability with the academics and when you look at the academics and then you put it on the field you can see the leadership. He’s a leader in the classroom and on the field,” Killen said.

“Corey Mccullough’s longest field goal in a game has been forty-seven yards. That was last season in his junior year. This season he has made a forty-one yarder in a game and if this game is tied at twenty with three seconds left in regulation Coach M.C Miller and his teammates are going to call upon him to kick that game winning field goal,” said WCBI’s Jonathan Flippo.

“Any time we cross the forty we’ll call on him anyway and we just like to do it because he’s got a strong leg and does a good job and he’s ready to go,” Miller said.

“He will do it. He will just keep his composure and go out there and do the best he can. That’s what he’s going to do every time and that’s what we like about him. He’s going to give it his best,” said teammate Chris Blair.

When that time comes down to kicking the game winning goal, McCullough says he will be ready when his named is called.

“I’ll be ready. I’ve been ready for it since I’ve started kicking. That’s something you look forward to as a kicker to live for that one moment,” McCullough said.

The Louisville Wildcats will be on the road this week when they travel to Noxubee County for a Divisional showdown Friday night at 7.
