COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Small business owners are saving big bucks on utilities. Programs designed to reduce rates for local businesses are working.

The “mom and pop” businesses have saved more than 1.2 million dollars through incentives created by the state’s public service commission.

Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presely says Restaurants like Old 82 in downtown Columbus are benefiting.

“This enables them to waive their upfront utility deposit and gives them a 25% discount on their natural gas bill for the first year they are in business. We are highlighting this program because it’s the most successful program in the country to help reduce utility rates for the small business owner.”
Presley is encouraging utility companies to renew the incentives.
