TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Area tourism officials and historic preservationists had a chance to learn about creative economies. An afternoon workshop was held at the Mississippi Hills Heritage Exhibit Center. The professional development session centered around the state’s “creative economy.” Panelists also looked at ways to create new community and regional partnerships. Participants say each town has opportunities to develop creative economies.
“In my town, creative economy, comes down to either visual arts or culinary arts,” said Mickey Howley. “So we have a number of restaurants that have gotten some attention and a small town with three galleries so we have kind of a creative nucleus of people doing stuff downtown and that’s how the creative economy plays out in Water Valley.”
The Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance meets each quarter. The next meeting will take place in September.
