Video: Annual Duck Race Held at Columbus Riverwalk

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Thousands of rubber duckies raced to the finish line Saturday afternoon at the annual Duck Race held at the Columbus Riverwalk.

Each year, the Columbus Lowndes Habitat for Humanity hosts the event to raise funds for the organization’s projects.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes for those who are unable to qualify for traditional financing.

In celebration of its 25th year, the group also invited churches to perform for the crowd. 

5,000 rubber ducks were used in this year’s contest.

“We’d entered before but hadn’t actually come down for the race. On such a pretty day we decided to come out and actually watch them run or swim,” says Columbus resident Jerry Conn.

Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity has built 41 homes. The 42nd home will begin this summer.
