On-line Scammers Arrested In Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Attorney General Jim Hood announced that Paul Moraru-Rogoza, 37, and Gicu Oprea, 50, were arrested following an investigation conducted by the Pearl Police Department and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division.
Moraru-Rogoza and Oprea allegedly participated in on-line shopping and auction scams that involved Ebay and Craigslist.
The scam asks shoppers to purchase items via wire payment.
Moraru-Rogoza is charged with 14 counts of communications fraud and one count of fraudulent use of identity. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 75 years in prison.
Oprea is charged with a single count of communications fraud and a single count of fraudulent use of identity. If convicted, he could face 10 years in prison.
Bond has not yet been set for either suspect.
