TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – With the ten year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina upon us, the man who served as governor of Mississippi during that time has put his memories and thoughts on the printed page.
This morning, former Governor Haley Barbour spent some time at Reed’s Gumtree Bookstore in Tupelo, where he signed copies of his latest book called “America’s Great Storm; Leading Through Hurricane Katrina.”
The book recounts the devastation Katrina unleashed on the Mississippi Gulf coast, and the aftermath and rebuilding process.
The former governor says he is still amazed at the outpouring of aid and relief from individuals, ministries, and governmental authorities.
“The federal government gets a lot of criticism, some of it very well deserved, but the federal government did a whole lot more right than wrong, Senator Cochran, Roger Wicker and our whole delegation, the federal government gave unprecedented relief to the states that were hit by Katrina, so this is a great story,” said Barbour.
Hurricane Katrina claimed 238 lives in Mississippi.
