STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Instead of getting ready for some summer fun, a seven-year-old Starkville student is preparing for open heart surgery next week.
Hailee Collins, a first grader at Sudduth Elementary School, was born with a hole in her heart. Her grandmother, Annette Collins, says Hailee recently began suffering shortness of breath. Doctors say the best treatment is open heart surgery.
Hailee will have six to eight weeks of recovery time after the surgery at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
An account has been set up at Renasant Bank for donations to the Hailee Collins Benefit Fund.
