STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The superintendent for Starkville-Oktibbeha schools is on paid administrative leave after his arrest, Monday.
The board of trustees held a special meeting Monday night to vote on the issue.
Dr. Lewis Holloway is charged with two counts of simple assault.
The Oktibbeha County sheriff’s department says Holloway allegedly fired a handgun into the air during an argument on Mt. Olive Road Sunday night.
He was released on a $1,000 bond.
School board president Eddie Myles says board members take these allegations very seriously.
He says Holloway will be on paid administrative leave until a thorough investigation is complete.
“Didn’t want to do anything hasteful,” Myles said. “Do anything quickly to make a quick decision. We want to make sure we really look and investigate this matter.”
Holloway declined to comment.
The school board meets again Tuesday night.
