Video: Local Grant Paying for Wi-Fi at Lee County Schools

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -Two Lee County high schools will soon have full wi-fi access thanks to a grant from local business.

The E.R. Carpenter Foundation has awarded a $50,000.00 grant to Saltillo and Mooreville high schools to fund the full wi-fi.

Thirty two wireless access points will be installed at the schools, making wi-fi available throughout the campuses.

The wi-fi will include filters the district uses, to block non academic content from laptops, and other devices.

“Technology is the language our students speak and we have to be fluent in their language and we have to make our instruction relevant to them, that is their life, outside of school so it was very important that we connect with our kids in this way because it is going to be their future.”

Installation will start in October, and should be complete by Christmas . The grant did not cover Shannon High School, because Federal funds paid for full wi-fi there.
