COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The city of Columbus continues to raise awareness about living a healthier lifestyle.
Columbus Mayor Robert Smith joined with the Environmental Protection Agency to provide information about asthma triggers and ways to reduce exposure to pollutants.
The EPA hosted the asthma awareness event at the Columbus Riverwalk.
Asthma is a disease that causes the lung’s airways to tighten.
Kevin Woodruff with the EPA says there a few things people should know about reducing asthma symptoms.
“A lot of people don’t know that their common household items and things around the house can trigger their children’s asthma or even adult asthma. There’s pets, there’s 2nd hand smoke, there’s mold in the house. Even little things like stuffed animals,” says Woodruff.
May is Asthma Awareness Month.
