STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Moving into college can be stressful and confusing at times.
Mississippi State University is hosting a New Maroon Camp to help with those issues

Moving into college is a fun and new experience for some, but it can also be confusing as well.

“Our goal at New Maroon Camp is to make these freshman or incoming students not feel new on their first day,” Co-Director of New Maroon Camp Pepper Taylor said.

That’s why MSU is hosting a New Maroon Camp to help make everything organized.

The camp is an experience that trains over 240 students to get them prepared to help incoming freshman move in on this Saturday.
“It’s pretty awesome because all week long we’re training them how to serve, we’re teaching them what it means to be a Mississippi State Bulldog, then on that Saturday they get to put that in action by being a part of a service movement,” Co-Director of New Maroon Camp Jack Cutrer said.

This means, freshman will be training fellow freshman.
“It’s actually probably one of my favorite parts of camp because it allows them to help fellow freshman,” Taylor said.

Everyone is split into five different groups, and they all go through various activities and exercises to get them, equipped for Saturday.

“We have a lot of students coming in from out of state that don’t know a single soul from Mississippi or at Mississippi State in general, and they’re going to get to know a lot of people and these counselors are going to be very invested in them,” Cutrer said.

Each student at the camp will spend the night in the dorms they were assigned to. Now although this is only the second year of the camp, that doesn’t stop parents from being comfortable about sending their child off.
“yes, theres no doubt that she is in good hands. The university is wonderful to host an event like this,” Starkville resident Robin Pigg said.

And even the students are hyped about this experience as well.
“I’m really excited. I think it’s going to be so much fun just to get in the dorms and be with everybody else who is in the same boat as me,” Incoming freshman Janiece Pigg said.
