Video: Mother-In-Law of Missing New Hope Officially Charged in His Death
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The mother in law of Manuel Vasquez , one of two family members charged in his death, is now officially booked into the Lowndes County Jail.
Lydia Martinez was released from the hospital late last week and tranferred to the Lowndes County Jail. The 56 year old is charged alongside her daughter Christina Vasquez with murder in the death of Christina’s husband.
Both women remain in jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
Vasquez moved his family to New Hope about two years ago from San Antonio. He disappeared on June 24th after returning to his Lowndes County home from a family trip to San Antonio.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s investigators, along with Lowndes County coroner Greg Merchant and the MBI uncovered a horror scene at the Vasquez property.
Merchant says human remains found outside the home were put in a container and burned, then spread throughout the property.
Those remains are now in Jackson at the Mississippi Crime lab awaiting a positive id.
The Vasquez family is holding a memorial service this week in San Antonio for family and friends.
