HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI)-For parents, it’s always a good feeling being able to send your child off to college.
Now, the Winn Job Center and Itawamba Community College are teaming up to help.
Itawmaba Community College is taking the opportunity for a degree on the road, giving people more access to an education.
ICC and Win Job Center are partnering to register people off campus.
“We want people to know that we’re wanting to come to them. We want to come out into these specific areas,” Director of Student Affairs Brad Boggs said.
For high school graduates or even those with a G.E.D. That’s wanting to get into a college, it can all be as simple as going to the Win Job Center, talking with the ICC representatives, and filling out the necessary paperwork.
“We want to be here to show them that it’s not as bad as it seems, its not as many steps as it seem,” Boggs said.
When potential students come in, first they will fill out the admission application.
Then, an ICC representative will walk them through the online applications and help them fill out their class schedule.
“It’s easier than people think,” Boggs said.
The goal of the Road Trip Program is simple, motivate youth to earn a degree in a field they love.
“We want to help folks, we want to show them that we can help them and that they can achieve things that they didn’t think that they actually could,” Boggs said.
“It’s kind of helpful to me because it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do since I was a kid,” future ICC student Jeffrey Turnipseed said.
The ICC and Win Job Center partnership is to help people apply.
It can be difficult for future students, such as Jeffery Turnipseed, to go to the school’s locations.
“I’m able to come and do work on the computer or fill anything out on the computer instead of having to drive to the campus and use the library, I can come right here to Houston,” he said.
This is the second time both parties have come together to host this program. There will be another session on Wednesday at the Win Job center in Belden and Amory.
