Video: State Office-Seekers Making Plans for Neshoba County Fair

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (WCBI) – It couldn’t come at a better time for state-wide candidates. The annual Neshoba County Fair is known as one of the best places in Mississippi to make a stump speech.

In fact this year, primary candidates will make their pitch less than a week before voters head to the polls. Wednesday, candidates for attorney general, auditor and insurance commissioner in founder’s square.

Lt. Governor Tate Reeves will also be on hand.

“Neshoba is always a fun time. People will say things at Neshoba they won’t say in mixed company or anywhere else.”

“Well at the Neshoba County Fair, I think you’ll see a lot of challenges over there making wild accusations and wild promises. And you’ll have a lot of incumbents talking about their record. That’s certainly what I’m going to do. We’re not gonna spend much time on anything other that record I’m running on.”

Former Mississippi senator Trent Lott has been to Neshoba many times.

“You’ll have the traditional pavillon speeches by the candidates for office. I guess the highlight of those speeches will be our governor who just walked up. Governor Phil Bryant will be speaking for his own re-election. So it will be a great event like it always is.”

“You know the hot topic is education and the economy. Both of them go together so we’re going to talk about early childhood learning and how we put more money in early childhood education than ever before.”
