NEW SITE, Miss. (WCBI) — Football is relatively new for the traditional power basketball school.
But for a team that just jumped into the competitive football pool, New Site sure is making a big splash.
The Royals made school history last year and plan on continuing to do so this year as they begin a new era.
Head coach Ronnie Jackson has departed from New Site, which will make way for the experienced James Lowery to take over.
Lowery, an Okolona High and Ole Miss graduate, has quite the resume when it comes to coaching in the south.
He first began not too far down the road from New Site at Wheeler, which just so happens to be where the Royals play their home football games.
After the stop at Wheeler, Lowery coached at Amory, Lambuth College, Bethel University, and had stints with the Mississippi Hound Dogs and most recently with W.S. Neal High School in Alabama.
Lowery will have a bit of a rebuilding job on his hands in his first season with the Royals, who jump up to Class 3A this season.
New Site graduated eleven seniors, including some of their talented skill guys on offense in quarterback Koie Jackson, running back J.T. Herring and athlete Sam Pharr.
For the Royals to be successful in 2015, Lowery says the team will have to work hard and rely on their strength in the trenches to begin the season.
