LOUISVILLE, MS. (WCBI)- When Monday’s deadly tornado hit Louisville, Winston County Regional Medical Center took a severe beating, but wheels are finally in motion for a mobile hospital.
” We were able to secure through the Department of Health, University Medical Center and our local medical center a location to put a temporary hospital. I say temporary, they say 12 to 15 months,” said Mayor Will Hill.
The facility is en route from the Carolinas and will be stationed off Church Street.
” It’s Teeters Floor Products. It’s in that parking lot. It will be easy access, be quick access to the highway and it’s on a main thoroughfare for the town,” said Mayor Will Hill.
” It’s a lot more than a first aid type tent that you might see in some disasters. It is truly a field hospital,” said Jim Craig, Director of the Mississippi State Department of Health.
Until it gets here, physicians and patients are getting treatment at Main Street Medical Clinic. While the mobile hospital is a great substitute, health care leaders are anxious to rebuild the main center for those who need it, not only for their health, but their jobs.
” The hospital is a large employer here. And we want to be able to keep their staff and the practitioners able to provide services here in Louisville and Winston County. And for people to be able to get the care they need and continue to receive that care here,” said Craig.
Hospital patients were taken to local churches after the storm. Others were taken to different hospitals in the area.
