MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — It’s official — Mississippi teachers will get a pay raise.
This morning, Governor Phil Bryant signed into law the $2,500 pay raise for teachers.
Speaker Philip Gunn proposed the raise for the state’s 33,000 teachers in December, and the legislature approved it during the 2014 session.
Teachers will get a $1,500 pay raise for the upcoming school year beginning July 1, and an additional $1,000 the following year.
The law calls for teachers and faculty to be eligible for yearly bonuses, based on school performances starting in 2016.
