State Public Universities Receive More Funds from Bonds

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – According to the Daily Journal, a second set of bonds were distributed during the 2014 legislative session that will help all eight public universities with long-term construction planning.

A total of $92.8 million was approved – a decrease from the $96.5 awarded in last year’s session.

This second set of bonds is part two of a three part installment. All eight public universities are slated to received long-term construction bonds over a three year period.

From the bond, $7 million will go toward the continued renovation of Mitchell Memorial Library on Mississippi State’s campus along with $400,000 for the development stages of a the new Department of Animal and Dairy and Poultry Science.

Another $14 million is slated to head to Oxford for repairs to Garland, Hedleston and Mayes Halls at the University of Mississippi. They are also receiving $30.5 million for a new School of Medicine classroom at the Jackson campus.

The remainder of the bond will be divided as states:

$14.5 million to Delta State.

$9 million to Alcorn State.

$5 million to the University of Southern Mississippi.

$4.9 million to Mississippi University for Women .

$4.5 milliontfr Mississippi Valley State.

$3 million to Jackson State University.
