Mother Charged With Overdosing Child

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Clay County mom faces a capital murder charge in connection with the death of her two month old son. Sheriff Eddie Scott says 24 year old Brittania Smith is accused of giving her child a lethal dose of codeine. Authorities made the arrest after a report from the state crime lab confirmed the painkiller was to blame for Brinston Smith’s death.

Brittania Smith is currently being held without bond pending an arraignment in Clay County Justice Court.
