ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Marion Gaylord and her friends traveled more than 200 miles for Aberdeen’s Spring Pilgrimage.
“We enjoy touring the Antebellum homes and just the history of that time,” said Gaylord.
Their first stop, First United Methodist Church for a rare glimpse at the sanctuary’s unique stain glass windows that date back to 1912.
“A friend that came with me she’s been on this pilgrimage in the past and she said that these are original Tiffany windows made by the Tiffany company and that’s what intrigued us to want to come and see them,” said Gaylord.
The 39th annual pilgrimage began with a luncheon to welcome guests, from both near and far.
“Aberdeen Pilgrimage really is unique because we have so many beautiful homes in this town of different styles and that are done in different ways. It’s just a pleasure to look at them and see what people have done with them,” said Cheryl Allen, Chairman of the Pilgrimage Luncheon.
This year’s line up includes tours, a program at the old cemetery and ofcourse, a look at 9 beautiful homes.
“Holliday Haven was built in 1850 by John and Marrah Holliday. As far as the history of the house, we have a little history in each room and on the front porch, my husband will tell you the history of the house and as you move through each guest, each hostess will tell a history,” said Emily Seymer, Homeowner of Holliday Haven.
From the majestic yard to the porcelain dolls, Emily and her husband Tom enjoy welcoming hundreds of guests to their home each year.
“We’ve met so many wonderful people all over this country, even out of this country. And sometimes at Christmas we get Christmas cards from people I would think, “Who is this? And you would open it up and it would be a note from someone who had visited our home during the Spring Pilgrimage,” said Seymer.
Aberdeen’s Spring Pilgrimage ends Sunday.
