MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Jury selection is expected to begin Tuesday in the retrial of a former college professor David Parvin who is accused of shooting his wife to death almost seven years ago.
Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Paul Funderburk qualified the jury pool this morning and spent the rest of the day hearing motions from the state and Parvin’s attorneys.
The jury will return tomorrow and testimony likely will begin Wednesday.
The former MSU economics professor was sentenced to life in prison in 2011 after a jury ruled he intentionally shot his wife Joyce in the head while she sat at a computer in their Aberdeen home.
Parvin claims the shooting happened when he tripped and the gun discharged.
Last year, the state Supreme Court ruled the state was allowed to use some unreliable expert testimony and ordered a new trial.
