TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- North Mississippi Medical Center Women’s Hosptial teams up with the March of Dimes to help lower the number of babies born too soon.
The hospital was one of 100 nationwide chosen for a one-year initiative to help reduce elective inductions and Cesarean deliveries.
Doctors say babies are at their healthiest at the full 39 weeks.
NMMC staff member Ellen Friloux says, “We’ve been working with our medical staff to not deliver those babies until 39 weeks unless it’s medically indicated that they be delivered before then.”
NMMC kicked off the initiative in December of 2012. Hospital officials say they saw a decrease in babies born at 37 and 38 weeks.
