Reform, Ala. (WCBI) – More than 100 broken pipes in a west Alabama town is having a big impact, now that temperatures are rising above freezing.
Reform Mayor Bennie Harton says crews have been working on the problem since Wednesday, as water pipes began to thaw out.
Homes and businesses are reporting low water pressure.
Harton says the leaks drained much of the city’s reserves. He’s asking residents to conserve water until water pressure increases, which could be as soon as Friday.
Public works employees are in neighborhoods looking for more water leaks.
Pickens County High School and Reform Elementary closed early Thursday and will not be open Friday. Harton says the schools were closed as a precaution because of the water situation in the town.
