LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County family will be opening their Christmas presents in a brand new home this year, thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
Terry and Tiffany Boykin say they’re thrilled to be given the keys to their new home.
“It’s a lot bigger than what we got, and I love this place,” Terry said.
The Boykins were surrounded by family and friends as local church leaders blessed each room.
It only took Habitat for Humanity volunteers three months to build the home.
“It’s just a very rewarding experience to see somebody’s life change, and to know that this family will have a nice, safe home for the holidays, and for the rest of their lives,” said Kathy Arinder, Columbus-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity.
“It’s amazing to be able to give my kids something that they can enjoy even in adulthood,” Tiffany said.
The family has been very involved with Habitat, helping build another house even before working on their own new home.
“I learned a lot,” Terry said. “In the future I’ll be able to help build other houses and know a lot more than what I did when I had done this one.”
They will start moving in, Tuesday.
Habitat workers say they’ll start taking applications for their next home in January, and hope to start working on it in the spring.
