TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The North Mississippi Medical Center wants you to know how to stay safe when participating in outdoor activities.
NMMC held its Safety Festival Tuesday afternoon in the hospital’s main lobby. Visitors picked up safety information about how to prevent boating, ATV, and hunting accidents. Items handed out included brochures, buttons and a floating key chain that keeps keys afloat in the event they’re dropped in water. Trauma Program Manager Kim Wright says all too often patients come in with life-threatening accident injuries.
“Head injuries, broken bones, bruises, contusions, abrasions, big lacerations. Just a multiple of different things. If we can prevent something from happening before it happens, it helps to keep down our numbers of patients that come through our emergency room,” says Wright.
Each year about three percent of NMMC’s trauma cases are fatal.
