Tupelo, MS (WCBI)–Students at an area daycare learn about healthy foods and art at the same time. WCBI’s Allie Martin reports it was part of a project that also encourages parental involvement. Each month, youngsters at Tupelo’s All God’s Children Child Care and Preschool study a different theme. In November, they learned about the five food groups: “On the dairy product week we used a milk carton , the milk carton they used to create something, whatever they wanted to create, it didn’t matter what it was and we wanted parents to be involved. “So, on this morning, two classes brought their works of art and some brought their mom or dad along.
“What did you make?”
“Fire Truck”
“A turkey”
“Santa Claus”
For parents and preschoolers, it was a chance to spend quality time together, and also to get creative and explore their interests.
“First I did the spray paint, then I did the leaves , next the pine combs, then the sticks.”
“I used wheels, fire truck, and instruction paper, and lights.”
“I made a sheep, cause I like farm animals.”
“It helps them develop, something they will always remember and children that have their parents involved, they are more likely to succeed later on in life.”
“The more you get to spend time, cause they’re growing quickly, better development.”
The kids also learn that milk is not only good for you, but it also tastes great…
“We Love Milk”
This month, the daycare’s theme is community. They will make miniature communities out of shoe-boxes.
