New Albany, MS (WCBI) – Union County residents recently elected a new Coroner. Pam Boman, is just one of seven female Coroners in the state of Mississippi.
“I have worked in emergency services with emergency management, disaster exercises. That’s what I’ve done since I’ve been out high school,” says Union County Coroner, Pam Boman.
Pam Boman is now one of three women in Northeast Mississippi and seven throughout the state, to hold the office of County Coroner. She’s been serving the community for 25 years and says being a woman in this position has its advantages.
“I do think that helps to be compassionate. I’m very compassionate to different people. I don’t meet a whole lot of strangers so I do think that helps,” says Boman.
Boman was born in Memphis Tennessee but moved to Union County when she was five. Now that she’s the Union County Coroner, she says she’ll go above and beyond the call of duty.
“Whether you expect a death or not it’s still hard. Just try to help people to understand what needs to happen, what’s going to happen. Try to help them through their situation, try to check on them after the death. Try to see if you could be of more help. See if they need anybody else to talk to or anything that we can do for them even after the death,” says Boman.
Pam Boman replaced Mark Golding who resigned after allegations that he filed false death claims for financial gain.
