Starkville, Miss. (WCBI) – C Spire breaks ground on a new 20 million dollar world-class data center. That should boost regional technology infrastructure in the southeast.
The almost 24 thousand square foot center is already attracting potential industry to the Thad Cochran Research Park in Starkville.
State, regional, and local leaders joined other business professionals for an official turning of the dirt on what is to be a state-of-the-art facility that would manage data from around the country.
“Have your services and the applications that you use in your business based over the internet. So that you can be anywhere access them any time with any number of people. And through any number of systems. That’s the beauty and the value and the benefit of the cloud,” said Dave Miller, C Spire.
The application known as cloud based computing is bringing the ultimate in technological advances right to our own back yard.
“Whats going to happen with this data center is that you are going to have businesses that are looking to expand. Large businesses medium size businesses looking to expand that have data needs that are going to now have an alternative right here in Mississippi. Right here based in Northeast Mississippi,” said Miller.
“The great recruiting tool, this is one of 52 centers nationwide. And anytime you can get a competitive advantage in recruiting new businesses and industry to the state, you need to utilize it,” said Mickey Milligan, MDA Manager.
Just one more sharpened tool in attracting industry.
“About 60% of businesses now are in the cloud. And they have to be in the cloud because they are managing so much data and the data is so critical to their business operations,” said Miller.
“We’ve kind of been, kind a like a T-Model on the information highway and this is going to put them at Mercedes speed on the information highway,” said Milligan.
The state of the art data center is expected to be completed by November 2014.
