New Hebron MB Church hosts HBCU College Fair
Representatives from four different HBCU's in Mississippi attended the event, hoping to inspire young locals to apply for their schools.
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – Higher education gives people diverse opportunities for growth.
Of course colleges provide good general education.
But they also teach important skills relating to teamwork, time management, and independence.
Learning these things in an environment that feels like home is essential to a persons development.
That’s why the HBCU College Fair at New Hebron MB Church is important for young Aberdeen locals.
Marcia Jones, the Tupelo-Northeast JSU Alumni Chapter president says there’s no experience like finding a school that feels like home.
“There was no experience like that at Jackson State,” Jones said. “Where you feel like you have your whole family there cheering you on. Making sure that you are being the best student that you can be. There’s just something different about having that type of support.”
Chadacee Lenoir, a high school student said it’s encouraging to see the work people are doing to enrich her future.
“It makes me feel that people nowadays are really trying to put forth effort to make our career better,” Lenoir said.
Mississippi hosts six historically black colleges and universities across the state.
