Columbus PD investigate fatal shooting of a young man
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Police are investigating a shooting that took place in the afternoon hours of Saturday, Sept. 28.
Around 3:23 p.m., CPD responded to the 200 block of Constance Lane.
Two victims were shot. One victim was 17 and the other victim was 16.
Arriving Officers immediately started chest compressions until Baptist Memorial Hospital arrived on the scene.
The 17-year-old was taken to BMH where he was treated for his injuries and released. The 16-year-old died at the scene.
Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said this is the city’s fourth homicide of the year.
“I’m asking anybody who knows anything to please contact the Columbus Police Department,” Chief Daughtry said. “This is a 16-year-old kid, a 16-year-old kid who had his whole life ahead of him, that some coward decided to shoot and is getting sad because it is happening in our community. And unfortunately, we’re losing our kids. I’m frustrated because of the fact that this kid had his whole life ahead of him.”
This case is currently under investigation.
