6 people die in head-on crash on Highway 14 in Winston County
WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Six people, including four children, were killed in a head-on crash in Winston County.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the accident happened about 10:30 Thursday night on Highway 14, about seven miles outside of Louisville.
Troopers say a car driven by 25-year-old Sara Batchelor of Sebastopol, Mississippi collided with another car driven by 22-year-old Laqerious Brown of Macon.
Those two drivers died at the scene.
A 16-year-old girl, a six-year-old girl, a three-year-old boy, and a one-year-old girl also died in Batchelor’s vehicle.
Louisville Fire, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Winston County Sheriff’s Office, Life Care EMS, and East Winston Volunteer Fire were all on the scene.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Staff Sergeant Derrick Beckom and Louisville Fire Chief Robert Hutto said that in these critical situations, it doesn’t matter what organization you are with, cooperation is key.
And Beckom said he wanted to remind citizens to be safe on the road, especially in rural areas.
“Whatever your situation is, wherever you’re having to travel to, no matter what time, just stay safe and give driving 100% of your attention, 100% of the time while you’re behind the wheel,” said Beckom.
“This was a very tragic event. We ask everyone to keep the family and first responders in their prayers. This weighs heavily on the whole community. It affects everybody,” said Hutto.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
