COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- As summer temperatures skyrocket, your wallet could be shrinking.
Heating and air conditioning can be up to 39% of your energy bill each month. Some people bump up the thermostat, while others try to save elsewhere. Lighting and heating the second highest contributers, and cutting back on those could help you save. One easy fix is to simply switch out those incandescent light bulbs for compact florescent ones.
Four County Electric’s Jon Turner said, “Think about how you’re using electricity. Think about how the weather plays a factor. Think about the lights you leave on, how many people live in your house. What you do as far as laundry in your house, anything you do that uses electricity that uses energy is going to cost you money.”
Other ways to keep your usage down include turning off and unplugging appliances. Four county also provides an online service to their customers that allows them to track their daily electricity usage.
