MOOREVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A season like 2012 from the Troopers would be considered by most a ‘transitional’ season.
Don’t tell that to Mooreville: last year’s season got head coach Kevin Austin and the Troopers back to the playoffs. And this season, experience is back on both sides of the ball.
“We have five starters back on both sides of the ball,” said coach Austin. “We have some good young kids we’re excited about. We had a good spring and we’re looking forward to getting them all back in here and getting back to work.”
“We’ll be very good this year,” junior Taylor Franks said. “Our defense will be outstanding and the offense will be just as good.”
Confidence is high not only with Franks but with the Troopers. It’s a new season for Mooreville and they believe with the new division they can compete in class 3A.
“I think it will be good for us,” Franks said. “We need new competition and we’re ready for it.”
Franks is one of those players that coach Austin may look to as the Troopers will have to replace talent on the ground.
“We lost Ben and Josh Johnson who had most of our carries the past two years,” Austin said. “We’ve got to find someone to replace those guys.”
“You have the whole team behind you,” Franks said of taking over as a leader and rusher. “It’s a big responsibility but I’m ready to take it on.
