BELDEN, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s the beginning of a new era at Tupelo Christian Prep.
The Eagles will turn into an MHSAA independent this upcoming season and head coach Shaune Holiday looks at the positives of being in that position.
“It helps us play teams that are more along our caliber of play with young players. It makes it a little more equal for us to win football games.
“We’re going to be very young this year which will be good since we are going independent. It helps us give these younger kids high school football playing experience and helps us grow as a team.”
TCPS will not be eligible for the playoffs this season but still have a full regular season schedule to play. At this point in the program, coach Holiday isn’t focusing about the wins and losses.
“It’s not about right now, it’s about building the future for TCPS football. We’re laying the groundwork for the kids in junior high for one day to come to TCPS and have a football program.
“Those nine seniors from last year helped lay the foundation. It’s not always about winning or losing, it’s about what kind of history you will leave behind for people to remember you by. These kids are leaving the legacy and letting people know they put the pads on to keep TCPS football alive.”
